Marc Porlier, a 51‑year‑old Montreal resident, has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm after allegedly directing death threats at Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Arrest and charges
The RCMP announced the charge Monday following an investigation that began on August 5. Porlier was arrested shortly after the probe commenced. Police allege he also sent an email threatening a senator and other individuals.
Investigators have not disclosed the content of the messages or identified the senator who was targeted.
Police warning
In a statement, the Mounties emphasized that violent statements will not be tolerated and that perpetrators may face criminal charges carrying significant sentences. They urged anyone with additional information to contact police.
