How stories are selected

We choose stories on the basis of public interest, relevance to Canadian readers, and significance to politics, business, ideas and culture. Editorial decisions are made by our editorial team and are independent of commercial considerations.

How we check facts

News articles are based on publicly available information, official statements, named and verifiable sources, and attributed third-party reporting. Where we rely on another outlet’s reporting, we say so and link to the original source. Claims of fact are checked against primary sources wherever possible before publication.

Reporting vs opinion

We publish both news and opinion. Opinion and analysis are labelled and reflect the views of the author, not the publication. News reporting aims to be accurate, fair and impartial, and to represent the subjects of a story fairly.

Sources and links

We link to original sources — official documents, statements and reputable reporting — so readers can verify the basis of a story for themselves.

Use of AI tools

We may use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, formatting and production. All published content is reviewed by our editorial team, which is responsible for its accuracy and final form. AI is a tool in the process, not a substitute for editorial judgement.

Sponsored content

Any sponsored, partner or affiliate content is clearly identified as such and kept separate from editorial coverage. Commercial relationships do not influence our reporting.
