The trial of a Montreal man accused of killing his nine-year-old daughter during a trip to New York state moved into its fourth week on Monday in Elizabethtown. Luciano Frattolin, 46, has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse in the death of Melina Frattolin, a Montreal resident.
Prosecution rests after video reconstruction
The prosecution wrapped up its case last week with a five-hour video reconstruction that traced the route Frattolin may have taken in the hours before he reported his daughter missing. The presentation aimed to place the accused at key locations around the time of the girl's disappearance.
Frattolin has been held without bail since his arrest in July 2025. The defence called its first witness on Friday, though it remains unclear whether Frattolin will take the stand in his own defence.
Body discovered in rural marsh
Melina's body was found in a marsh in a rural area of New York state. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be drowning. The case has drawn attention in Montreal, where the girl lived, and across the border where the trial is underway.
The proceedings continue this week in Essex County Court. A verdict is not expected for several days at minimum.
