Calgary police issued a dangerous person alert shortly after noon on Monday after receiving reports of a shooting near Edworthy Park in the city's southwest. The alert urged residents in the area to remain indoors while officers responded.
Large police deployment
Witnesses described a significant police presence around the park, including officers with firearms drawn and the HAWCS helicopter circling overhead. Patrol vehicles blocked access near the intersection of Bow Trail and Sarcee Trail as investigators secured the scene.
Approximately 50 minutes after the initial alert, the Calgary Police Service posted an update on social media stating the dangerous person alert was no longer active because the threat was no longer active. Despite the all-clear, multiple sections of Edworthy Park and surrounding areas remained closed Monday afternoon while officers continued their investigation.
Police asked the public to continue avoiding the area. No information on injuries, suspects or arrests has been released. The investigation is ongoing.
